Psychology: Drugs of Abuse Research Project

Directions: Please read and seek to understand all instructions of the project in order to learn about different types of drugs and their physical and psychological effects.

Step 1: Complete the Introductory Activity below in order to collect information on the different types of drugs listed. Make a copy of the below document and type in information in the proper area on the document as you listen.

Step 2: Selection and Research
Select 3 different drugs you would like to learn more about, and seek out information about each one. Below is a Research document for you to focus your research in certain areas.

Step 3: Create
You will select one of the drugs you researched and create a Google Slide presentation with a 3 minute long speech that you will give in class on Tuesday Feb 9th and Wednesday Feb 10th.  

Requirements:

• An Introduction Slide:
• Title of your Product, Your Name, Date, Period
• 1 Background Image
• Each Topic Slide:
• One Slide per Topic
• Title each slide with your topic (Physiological Effects, Addiction To, etc)
• Brief bulleted information on what you learned
• At least 2 images (school appropriate, topical)
• Other elements (images, video, etc.) as you feel necessary to communicate your understanding
• Conclusion Slide:
• Title
• 1 Background Image
• Summary of your drug and how it alters one's consciousness

Speech:

• 3 minutes in length
• Rehearsed with the use of minimal notes
• You will use your Slide presentation throughout it 
• The speech will go into details on what you've learned about the drug, identifying:
• The Physiological and Psychological Effects of the drug on the user
• The neurological effect -- what is the chemical reaction on the brain 
• What does addiction to the drug look like
• What is the treatment for this type of drug addiction
• This will not just be a regurgitation of your research notes! You must craft your speech from the information you provided but you will use your speech must be your words communicating your understanding of the material

What you will turn in

On Friday February 5th, you must have shared with me the following:

• Your Research document with 3 drugs fully researched
• Your Google Slide Presentation
• A draft of your speech (This can be on your research document)

WWI Timeline Project
Aim: To look at the whole of the "Great War" and create a product that reflects your understanding of various events and assesses the impact WWI had on later events.

Product: You will create one Google Slide presentation that will accurately depict numerous events in chronological order complete with description, images, video, and any other elements you feel will provide a greater understanding of the event on the overall conflict.

EVENTS TO IDENTIFY FOR YOUR TIMELINE

Requirements:

You've heard about the Lusitania, the unrestricted submarine warfare, and the sinking of American ships.  You are an adult (early 20s) and you or your friends and family could be called to war if your President asks Congress for a Declaration. Write a persuasive letter to President Wilson explaining your opinion on whether the U.S. should or should not enter the war. Use information from the document and what you've learned in class and from Chapter 13 to shape your letter.  The requirement is 500 words AT LEAST!
